“Uncertainty looms over the timeline for resolving ongoing internet outages.”
Throughout the 2024 fall semester, our campus has grappled with persistent Wi-Fi issues, ranging from complete internet outages to inconsistent, spotty service. These disruptions have become a frustrating norm, even during crucial times such as midterm week, when reliable connectivity is most needed.
Students and professors alike have expressed growing frustration, often left with more questions than answers about the root cause and potential fixes. The lack of transparent communication and regular updates has only deepened dissatisfaction, with many feeling that little progress has been made toward a solution. While occasional emails address the issue, these updates are sparse and fail to provide a clear timeline or reassurance that the problem is being prioritized.
Speculation has arisen that the Wi-Fi problems may not be fully resolved until the summer—or even later. Some discussions suggest that interference from student-owned routers might be overloading the network. Others point to the possibility of outdated wired internet infrastructure, which may no longer meet the demands of a modern campus reliant on high-speed connectivity. Without definitive answers or a concrete plan of action, the uncertainty surrounding the situation continues to be a source of frustration for the campus community.
