Marymount Men’s and Women’s Swim kicked off the winter season with victories against St Mary’s College of Maryland and Cabrini University at the Lee Center Pool.

At the season opener Oct. 28, Marymount men’s team garnered 179 points
while competitor St Mary’s earned 82 points. The women’s team finished
with 160 points versus St Mary’s 100. Marymount also defeated Cabrini,
earning 200 points for the women and 210 for the men. Cabrini’s men’s
team finished with 28 points, and the women’s team finished with 12 points.
St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s and women’s teams both took second
place at the Atlantic East Conference in the 2022-2023 season. Marymount
took first.

All-time Finishes
Marymount men’s swimmers shattered records. Swimmer Ryan Faherty
earned the Atlantic East Conference Swimmer of the Week for his 200 yard
freestyle, 200 yard individual medley, and 200 yard breaststroke. Faherty
recorded a time of 1:47.97 for his 200 yard freestyle, breaking a Marymount
record and earning him a 10th all-time swimming record. On the men’s team
freshmen swimmers Daniel Caldwell, Luke Claudy, Evan Pak, and Garrett
Watson broke Marymount all-time records in their events.

Swimmers Excitement
The swimmers expressed excitement. Alexander Hain, Marymount’s men’s
swimming most valuable player in 2022-2023 said, “The meet was great.
Everyone gave 100%. We are going to have a spectacular season if everyone
keeps up the good work.” Hain helped lead the team to victory at the last
Atlantic East Conference Championship earning top three finishes in all of his
events and breaking team, conference, and championship meet records.
Garrett Peck, who received Marymount’s men’s swimming coaches award
last season said, “My favorite part of the first meet was when I was counting
for Garrett (Watson) while he was beating the conference champion in the
1000 free.” Peck gained top finishes in both the conference championship as
well as the first dual meet against St Mary’s College of Maryland and Cabrini
University.

Sophomore Ilana Hawkins said, “The team did great in all the women’s
events. That is definitely a good feeling going into the new season.” Hawkins
had top three finishes in the majority of her events in conference and had
top finishes at the dual-meet.

Payton So, a sophomore, said, “I really enjoy being back with a new team
this season. The freshmen are all so eager to succeed and win.” So started
her first season competing on the team after recovering from an injury that
halted her from competing her freshman season.
